Japanese Maple problem

We have this Japanese maple in our yard and has suddenly developed areas on the leaves. I’m not sure if they’re scorched or eaten. Can you help?

This is insect damage, could be Japanese Beetles or a few others.

Treat with Neem Oil.
Do so weekly until you are sure the damage to the leaves has stopped.
