Jade plant problem

I bought a jade plant last year. Re-potted it recently in a mix that seems most recommended. I’m trying not to over water since that seems also to be the general caution. It’s in a window that gets some afternoon sun but not a lot. It seemed to perk up but now leaves are dropping. Not sure what to do.

After repotting, plants will oftentimes experience a period of shock while adjusting to their new environment. Make sure that you have given it adequate water and place it in similar light conditions as before. With almost all houseplants, it is best to repot while they are dormant in the fall and winter. They are less susceptible to transplant shock if they are repotted when not actively growing. In time the plant should recover on its own.

The only way you can know if you are watering any plant correctly is to investigate the moisture in the soil. You can do this with a moisture meter, or by sticking a kebob skewer all the way to the bottom of the pot; for a jade plant, the meter should read almost dry, or the skewer should feel dry with no soil sticking to it. Also, the leaves should feel very slightly soft rather than turgid before you water again. Regarding light, jade plants in the wild grow in full sun. Try moving yours gradually to higher light locations; one of the things they do when they don’t have enough light is drop leaves.

Thank you. This has been very helpful. I will try moving it gradually to get more light. That seems to be the main advice I’m getting.
With gratitude,
Pam
