My Jade plant has grown to long is it necessary to cut the plant in order for it to survive?

It's probably not necessary to trim for your plant's health (unless the situation is extreme) but you may choose to trim to shape.

Typically plants become overly long and thin when they are getting less light than they need. Perhaps you could trim your Jade back a bit and find it a spot where it get more indirect light.
