Q.ixora plants

Zone Saint Petersburg, Fl. 33709 | lwebb added on March 22, 2018 | Answered

I noticed the ixora plants out in front of the house were not blooming. On closer inspection I saw a vine growing around the stems so I got rid of the vine. Some of the stems of the ixora are dark brown and some of the leaves have large black spots on them and a few on one of the other one was black, no leaves or flowers so I removed it. Will the plants come back since the vine was removed. Have no idea what the vine was but it was not poison ivy. I have no rash or itch on my hands or arms from the vine. Thanks for any info you can give me.

The vine, likely, didn't have anything to do with the plant's degrading health. This sounds like a fungal issue. Dolomitic lime and wettable sulfur will, usually, take care of this. Peroxide can also help for advanced infections.
