Q.established trumpet vine is not budding

Zone 6a | Anonymous added on May 3, 2016 | Answered

It is may 1st and my established trumpet vine is not budding. This is a very established vine on an arbor. It thrived all summer long last year. We moved into this home last June so I did not see it in May last year. I pruned it back a lot last fall. I see not one sign of growth. Is it too early to be seeing any leaves growing?

I would give it more time. I have read about people in the same position as you – a dead looking vine and wondering about new growth and then voila!, here it comes in late spring. This spring has been on the cold side so many plants are taking their dear old time coming out of dormancy.
