Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comBoth trees looked very healthy when in blossom and the pear had many fruits, not yet ripe. The leaves seemed to go bright orange on the crataegus and black on the pear almost overnight. I have noticed similar looking dead hawthorn on roadsides in the area. Has an attack of fire blight been reported generally in Hertfordshire this summer? I’m worried for my other rosaceae trees and shrubs.

It could be fire blight which is not good news. Here is information on how to control it. You might also contact your local extension agent for absolute diagnosis.
