Is this a weed?

Help. I have some individual plants (some are up to 3′) with a straight stem, grey/green spiky leaves growing out from the stem all the way up with no sign of flowers at the moment. Are these weeds? Pests? Or plants that are perfectly okay to stay in my garden? Any advice will be extremely welcome. Thank you.

If you could upload an image of the plants in question we would love to help you make an identification.

I had attached a couple of photos, they obviously didn’t go through.
