Is This A Normal Growth For A Hen And Chicks Plant?

Question

This started out as a normal hen and chick. When it got to be about 6″ in diameter, it began growing upward and it has these little Flower like buds on the end of the protruding leaves. This took about 2-3 months. I have been growing hen and chicks for many years and have never seen this before. Any ideas?
