Is There A Ground Cover Or Plant That Will Overtake Weeds Rather Than Having To Pull Them Up?

I live in the desert area of Temecula California on 5 acres of Orange groves. My parents typically use monsanto products to get rid of weeds. I am looking for a natural alternative. Hoping there are plants (ground covers, any suggestions)that actually overtake weeds if there is such a thing. Lots of weeds!!! Thank you!
