Q.IS MY LEMON TRE DEAD

Zone 07508 | PRODUCE PETE added on April 15, 2025 | Answered

BROUGHT MEYER LEMON TREE IN THE HOUSE THIS WINTER BEFORE FROST (PICTURE BEFORE AND AFTER BELOW). WATERED AND GAVE FERTILIZER. ALSO, GAVE SOME LIGHT WITH PLANT LIGHT. WHILE INSIDE, TREE LOST ALL OF IT’S LEAVES AND TURNED BROWN. TREE WAS HEALTHY WHEN I BROUGHT IT INSIDE AND I PICKED ALL OF THE LEMONS OFF OF THE TREE. IT WAS VERY PRODUCTIVE. BROUGHT TREE OUTSIDE 3 WEEKS AGO, COOL OUTSIDE BUT NOT FREEZING. GAVE WATER AND FERTILIZER. SOIL STILL MOIST. ALL OF OUR OTHER TREES AND PLANTS ARE BUDDING BUT THE LEMON TREE REMAINS BROWN AND NO LEAVES. THERE IS NO SIGN OF BUDDING. IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE THIS TREE IS DEAD! YOUR EXPERTISE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. PETE

It may not have survived overwintering. You can check by scratching off some of the bark. If it is green underneath, it is still alive. The branches should be pliable and not brittle or easily snapped off. Here is more:
