Is My Acer Red Suffering From Underwatering Or Overwatering?

My acer has browm dried tips on the leaves at the top of the plant although lower branches are not so bad at the bottom

Yellowing leaves are a sign of both overwatering and underwatering. You should be watering deeply when the top inch of soil is dry if you aren't getting rain. Since it is in a container it may need watering more often than if it were in the ground. Try to water consistently because Japanese maples prefer moist soil.

Brown leaf edges can indicate too much sun or drying winds. If it is getting afternoon sun, you can move it to a place where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade.

Also check to make sure the roots aren't coming out of the drainage holes. If so, it needs a taller container. And inspect the leaves closely for pests.
