Q.Is It Too Late In The Summer To Trim Abelia Shrubs? I’m In Zone 9.
Plants were planted in December when we had been having a lot warm weather. Shortly after they were planted, about 10 days we had a frost that lasted about 3 days. Very unusual for this area. The plant is growing but it looks as if its just growing up through the middle. I never had flowers on the bushes. I also called the nursery and they said it might be the Kaleidoscope variety and there were not flowers.

'Kaleidoscope' does have small, white flowers in spring. You can trim the wayward branches anytime during the season. These articles should help:
