I am moving and want to give my holly bushes to my friend, is it okay to transplant now?

Fall is actually a great time for transplanting. If you plan on moving it, I would prune it back by 1/3. This will help it focus on re-growing the roots it lost. Make sure to dig up as much of the root system as possible and give it some bone meal to help boost phosphorus, which helps with root development.
