ginger plant

Is breaking the stems of ginger plants effective to increase the sizes and growth of ginger? I was told that stepping on your ginger plants or breaking the stems increases the size of the rhizomes. I was a quite curious of the truth behind this claim. Thank you for the answers that will be provided.

I have not heard of this technique, but the great thing about gardening is that you can learn something new all the time.
