rhododendron buds

Is a rhododendron with buds from last year that have not flowered still likely to flower? I inherited the plant last year with the buds on but out of its container. So I potted up the plant but it didn’t flower. I wasn’t surprised because of its condition when I got it. Is it likely the buds will still bloom as I haven’t seen any movement so far?

It is unlikely but not impossible that they will bloom. If they are still green and pliable, it won’t hurt to leave them on to see if they will. But if they are dry and brown, they will not open and it would be best to remove them.
