Iris rhizomes

We have to divided our Irises this year and we have a lot of them. Several people want some of our rhizomes. Although we don’t want to store them over the winter, there could be a maximum period of a couple of weeks between when we do the digging and dividing and when they get them transplanted. Is there a good way to hang onto them in between the time we dig them up and divide them and when we can get them to our various friends/family? I’ve got several ideas – plant in plastic containers, put in plastic bags. What do you recommend? Thanks!

As long as you keep them dry and in a dark location, the rhizomes should be fine until you can get them in the ground. These articles will help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/iris/storing-iris-rhizomes.htm [1]
