Q.Inside plants

I have a Peace Lily and there are sites that say they thrive in darkness as well as light, don’t put it in direct sunlight and water it 2 to three times a week; other sites say “water if the top soil is dry.” When I received the plant, it already had yellow and brown spots. How much water should be given to a Peace Lily?

It is worse to over-water than to under-water a peace lily, so the most important thing is to make sure the roots don't sit in water all the time. You can let the top of the soil get just a bit dry or very dry, and the plant will be fine.
