Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comThis insect I’ve seen in my yard looks like a giant ant. It’s red, black, and about 4 times the size of little black ants. Would you happen to know what it is?

Wow, this could be a lot of insects. That being said, here are two possibilities (based on your zone) that I came up with:
If it’s red, black and fuzzy, it could be the red velvet ant: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef442.asp [1]
Some types of fire ants can get quite large and are both red (up front) and black
