Q.Indoor jade plant stems long and top heavy

Zone Calgary, Alberta, Canada | lrhenuset54 added on March 12, 2015 | Answered

1. Stems long and top heavy. Do I use supports or let them bend over? Seem to break easily when leaning over.
2. How deep should the stems be? Several of them seem to be very shallow and pulling out of the dirt when bending over.
3. How big a container should I use? Should it be deep or wide and shallow?

I would carefully prune your jade and move it into a larger pot. For guidelines on pruning, please visit the following link:

Jade plants, by their very nature, have a shallow root system, so this is normal. Given this fact, the pot you choose doesn't have to be too deep, I would opt for a wider, more shallow pot. But if you are the type of gardener who tends to over water you may want to opt for a deeper pot.
