Indoor houseplant

I received an English ivy in a basket from my wife as an anniversary present on March 10. Now the leaves are starting to fall in clumps after being watered. Any suggestions?

It sounds as if your plant was overwatered and that it is suffering from Root Rot.
The soil should dry between waterings.
Here is a link with care information.
