indoor avocado plants

I currently have 12 plants, 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years old. I lost 4 due to ignorance of what I am doing I took pits, put them in pots and they grew. Then I didn’t know what to do. I have them indoors and the soil dries out quickly and then leaves start to curl, turn brown and drop off. Thats how I lost 4 plants. I moved the 12 survivors into another room so the AC vent would not hit them, they seem to be doing better. I have never repotted or fertilized them so after reading the various sites, realize I need to repot and fertilize. I use a water bottle mister on them almost daily as they dry out so quickly. They seem to like the misting.

Any suggestions? Different sites recommend various fertilizer combinations. 10-10-10, 7-5-10, What would you use. They are 28 – 40″ tall, should I cut them back or is it too late. I have a greenhouse but when it’s 98 deg outside, central Texas, it’s 110+ inside. Everything fries in there. On my covered deck it is 98 deg right now. I’m afraid to put them outside. Thank you for your time in reading my post, and for your kindness in answering me. I’m in zone 8-9, one hour NW of Huntsville, TX and 45 minutes NE of College Stateion Bryan. Thank you. I’m sure your avocado plants DO enjoy the misting, especially as hot as it can get in Texas!

Any water-soluble fertilizing solution will benefit your avocado on a monthly basis. A fish-emulsion fertilizer once per month is a good option as well.

You could probably put your avocado plants out on your deck even in the high temps, just increase the watering and misting. Keep in mind they won’t produce any blooms or fruit unless the night temps are significantly cooler than the daytime ones.
