Indian Hawthorn revival

I have an Indian Hawthorn shrub in my front yard. A vine of some sort rooted itself by the shrub and seems to have choked it. I dug up the vine with the intention of digging up the dead shrub, but found the lower, thicker branches still have some life in them. Can this shrub be revived? If so, what do I need to do to help it? Thanks!

There is no real way to tell if the plant can recover, other then time.
Check the branches for signs of life. Do they bend or break? Prune the dead branches and wait it out.
