Q.worm bin dirt

Zone Rhode Island | jkdn32 added on November 4, 2015 | Answered

Last summer, my worm bin began to smell and I discovered that all the worms had suddenly died. I left the bin so its contents would decompose, and now more than a year later, I opened it to see what looks like good dirt but with some white, perhaps moldy looking stuff, atop some of the dirt. I wonder if this can be dangerous in any way and can I still utilize the dirt if I skim off the white stuff. Many thanks for your help!
All the best,
Janice
