Q.Improving Soil
Florida Zone8 My soil is SANDY!not beach sand. And alkaline. Plants grow, but not great. Do I just keep adding things to the top of the soil? Every time I plant something new I make sure to add compost etc. Any suggestions?

You can, but if there is nothing planted in the area, right now, then it would be a good idea to till in anything that you put in. If you already have things planted there, then it will be ok to just put things on top. I'd add worms, if possible, to help break down organic matter faster. As for acidifiers- Many of the things that are good to add to sandy soils will also help lower pH. Things like sphagnum moss, coffee grounds, sulfur containing fertilizers, or ammonium based fertilizers will do the trick.
