I believe she was letting people know how to identify a male tree, but if you know yours is a male tree, go ahead and follow the instructions for taking a cutting. Humidity might be the problem. You can try covering your cutting with clear plastic to increase the humidity. (the cutting should not touch the plastic.) Open the plastic every few days to circulate some air.
