way? I have had my cactus since the summer of 2014, I do not remember what type exactly my cactus is. I recently discovered this big weird patch area and I’m worried that my cactus could be dying and or something is seriously wrong with it.

I believe your cactus plant is a species of Pachycereus.

There are several possibilities for the drying of the tissues, or "corking". It could be a bacterial or fungal infection, worst case is "bacterial necrosis" which is common in the big saguaros.

But it could also be due to sunburn or phyto-toxicity. Has it been sprayed with anything? Intentionally or accidentally?
