Q.I Would Like To Know About “seed” That I Have Called Naked Man Orchids

Zone Ottawa, Canada | Anonymous added on May 6, 2023 | Answered

I understand one name they are known by is Orchis Italica. The seeds appear to be quite large. They look like very tiny tulip bulbs. Am I looking at a small bulb? Is the fungus needed to help them germinate? Some photos are attched.

Here is information we have on Orchis Italica. It is one of many wild orchids in Turkey whose rhizomes are used to make a powder, then ice cream or a beverage. Orchid seeds are the size of a speck of dust and they do need the symbiotic relationship with a mycorrhizal fungus to germinate.
