Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a copper trellis that I would like to grow a vine on. I tried growing Baltic Ivy and it grew the first season but all the vine that was touching the copper died over winter and through the next growing season the rest of the ivy died. I tried growing Black Eyed Susan vine from seed to grow up it but it didn’t come up at all. I would appreciate suggestions for what else to try. Thank you.

The problem is that copper is a great conductor, so your copper trellis is going to conduct the cold very well and it will literally freeze any plants that touch the trellis. Because of this, I would recommend that you grow annuals on the trellis as they will die each year so the cold metal in the winter won’t matter. If you are still dedicated to a perennial, trumpet vine is the hardiest plant I know of and might be able to take the abuse.
Morning glories are a popular and easy to grow option. they will reseed and regrow each year, so they are almost like a perennial. You may also like cardinal vine.
