replace lawn with creeping thyme

I want to replace my lawn with creeping thyme. After I remove my lawn, how do I prepare the dirt to plant?

Creeping Thyme and Wooly Thyme can be used as an alternative lawn. Keep in my they would not be good for a high traffic area.
