Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI want to make 2 plants, 1 from a lily and 1 from a rose. I want to know how I can make a plant out of a lily from a flower arrangement from someone’s funeral flowers. I received a beautiful, heavenly scented lily from my friend’s mother’s funeral arrangement and I would love to honor her mother by making a plant from it that I can enjoy and remember her. There was also a beautiful rose, I would like to make a bush from?

Hi and thank you for your question. Getting the rose cutting to take root and grow is the first step. Getting it to survive after that is the real chore! You see many rosebushes are grafted rosebushes. The top desired part is grafted onto a hardy healthy rootstock so that it will survive in most gardens and climatic conditions. Take away the hardy rootstock and may roses just are not hardy enough to keep on living in many gardens or rose beds. Here are a couple links to articles for you on this subject when it comes to roses, I will let someone else address the lily question. Just a tip, a product called Olivia’s Cloning Gel works very well to get the cuttings to take root.
