Q.I want to give amaryllis bulbs for Christmas.

Zone Zone 8 | Anonymous added on June 29, 2020 | Answered

I understand the bulbs will be shipped to me Nov/Dec. I want to tell folks when to plant the bulbs. When will they bloom? Spring or Summer? I understand the bulbs are ready to pop stalks once they are shipped.

Ideally those bloom indoors around Christmas, so you need to receive/ship them in early November so the recipient has time to initiate the growth.
The bulbs come with instructions but Amaryllis usually need about 6 to 8 weeks to bloom.
After they bloom and the threat of frost is past, they can be planted outside and will come up the next spring in planting zones 6 or 7 and warmer.
