Q.I Recently Dug Up Some Daffodils And Yellow Tulips -they Are Now In The Basement When Should I Replant Them In New Locations?

Zone Fremont, NE | Anonymous added on July 7, 2025 | Answered

The daffodils grew but didn’t bloom for 2 years- I think they needed more sun? The tulips we big yellow ones and they were beautiful but the new Iris were crowding them out..do they need a sunny location too?

All three of those plants prefer full sun. The daffodils do not need to be dug up. They are hardy in your area. Tulips should be hardy in your area, but even if they do come back, they will be smaller and fewer. Did you let the foliage die back to brown before digging up the daffodils and tulips? That is important to allow the bulbs to regenerate.

Find a permanent place for your daffodils in full sun. You can replant them in the fall before the ground freezes. Many people treat tulips as annuals and plant new in the fall. Here is more information on tulips, daffodils, and iris.
