ixia bulbs did not sprout

I planted Ixia bulbs this summer from two different vendors and none of them came up – why? We had a lot of spring rain but ground never flooded.

Ixia prefer to be planting in well draining soil. With the heavy rain that you mention they may have rotted in the ground.

Proper planting can also be a factor, planting depth is 3 to 5 inches deep.

Also don’t rule out rodents. Many times moles, mice and even squirrels will dine on bulbs.

Ixia are an excellent plant to grow in pots. Give that a try next spring.
