I need to find out the specs on it, so I will know where and how to plant it. The leaves turn green in the summer, I believe.

It looks like a Japanese maple. They are usually grafted so whatever you get won't look or perform like the nursery propagated maples. The most popular are acer palmatum and acer japonicum. You can do an internet search under those terms and see what varieties come up.

Seed grown are purported to be weak limbed and struggle through the winter but you can always grow it in a pot and move it inside for the winter.
