Plants Like Jasmine and Shevanti Kept in the Balcony

Leaves of both the plants are turning yellow and they fall everday. Even the tulsi plant is also shedding leaves everyday. What would be the cause of the above? And what is the solution?

Except for the jasmine, I’m not familiar with these plants, they’re not found in the US. But for most plants, dropping yellow leaves, while it can be caused by a number of seemingly contradictory conditions, is a sign of too little water. If you’ve been watering alot, and letting the water run out freely, the root balls may be so dry that they can’t absorb water. Fix for this is to allow the plant to soak in a bucket of water for several hours, so that all tissues can get moistened. After that, continue to water when the soil gets slightly dry, possibly allowing water to remain in drainage saucer so plant can have access to extra moisture. The other possibility is that the soil is too wet, the roots have started to rot, so they aren’t functioning to bring water to the leaves, thus the leaves react the same as if there were no water available. To fix this, test the soil with some kind of stick you can insert into the bottom of the soil, and don’t water until the soil is almost dry. You will know as soon as you feel the tester whether the problem is too much water in the soil, or too little. I have a couple of videos on YouTube that might further explain these concepts :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBBh0RPPqu0&feature=plcp [1] and
