Q.I have phantom hydrangeas and wish to keep the plant more compact than leggy. What do I do?
When I first got them they were clustered together and gorgeous. IMG_0087.JPG

Panicle hydrangeas bloom on new wood so you can cut them back in late winter or early spring. Since you like them compact, cut them back to 18 to 24 inches.
They really only need to be pruned for shape or to retain a desired size.
