I have nicotiana plants. How do I cut them back for winter? When is the best time to do this? The plants are about 3 ft tall. I live near Chicago. Thank you!

Most Nicotiana plants are sold and grown as an annual. With proper care and dead heading they should continue to bloom through fall.
You can then remove from the garden.

You can try to cut them back and mulch lightly. There is a few varieties that are considered a tender perennial and could come back next spring.
