I have just had a Hibiscus pot plant bought for me

I have just had a Hibiscus pot plant bought for me. I do love plants but thought these needed a lot of heat, although I live in the gulf stream. We do get cold winters sometimes & always a lot of wind, as I live on an island. I would like to know if these plants are grown for the British climate.

The plant seems to be in very good condition & has quite a few buds on it. I know it must be kept moist in summer, but will it stand the winter in the house. I only have an unheated greenhouse.

There are several kinds of hibiscus, and you need to know what kind you have in order to give it proper care. The tropical hibiscus would need to overwinter in the house – you don’t want them to get much below 40 f. However, there are also “hardy hibiscus,” which are hardy outdoors to zone 4.
