It’s October. Should I treat for moles or grubs or should I leave it alone since winter will be upon us?

Grub worms will feed throughout fall until the temps begin to drop, at which point they will burrow deep into the soil to overwinter. Once spring and warmer temps return, they will resurface and begin feeding. Therefore, it’s best to treat during fall while they are still close to the surface. You can check how deep the grubs are by digging up a small patch of lawn (now). If they are more than 2 inches deep, you’re better off to wait until spring for treatment, as they are too deep for the insecticides to reach and it will only be a waste of time. Also, by spring they have usually done as much damage as they’re going to, and are large enough for heavier insecticide treatments. I would check the lawn first to see where the boogers are and then determine whether or not treatment is necessary, though now would be an optimal time to do so.
