Q.pruning large rhododendron

Zone Zone 6 | sthompson added on June 16, 2015 | Answered

I have a very large rhododendron right outside the front door of my condo that I am getting ready to sell in the next couple of months. I have been renting the condo for about 4 years and they never pruned it. It really needs to be pruned back before I sell my condo. It is beautiful but huge. Probably 5 foot tall and 3 or 4 feet wide. It is starting to encroach on the front sidewalk leading to the front door. Can I cut it now without killing it? I know it may take a year or so to rebloom, but I don’t want to kill it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Here is an excellent article that will help you get your Azalea cleaned up.
If the plant is done blooming you can go ahead and prune.
