Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI have a bromeliad where the mother plant appears to be completely dead (I stopped watering it), but it has a pup that looks perfectly healthy and is still slowly growing. I water the pup daily, via it’s cup and make sure the bottom stays dry. Do you think the pup will survive until it becomes big enough to seperate, even though the mother appears dead and or should I start watering the mother again?

This is the nature of the plant. They are very similar (and closely related to) pineapples. Once the mother starts to die, then replacement pups will take over, and can be separated and forced to root separately at any time.
