Q.I Have A Problem With Purslane In My Garden!

Zone 46528 | Anonymous added on July 4, 2024 | Answered

My garden is 125‘ x 75‘, so it is too big to pull all of the purslane! I am afraid to use herbicides because I don’t want it to affect my corn and tomatoes and potatoes! Is there a spray that I can use that will not stunt or kill my sweet corn?

Is the purslane all around the corn, tomatoes, and potatoes? If so, I would wait till you've harvested for the season, then spray the whole area. You can try pouring boiling water on it if you can avoid your veggies, because it will kill them too if it touches them. You could at least slow them down till the end of the season. You also can hoe lightly to cut them up to slow them down. But try not to disturb the roots of your desirable plants.
