Q.stray watermelon vine

Zone Willis, tx | Gingerrichter added on October 5, 2014 | Answered

I have a late starting stray watermelon vine that is growing beautifully but I’m concerned I’ll run out of time before it ripens before the first cold snap. How long once a vine blooms before the melons are ripe? I have little tiny baby melons and it the first of October. Will they have time to mature before next month or how could I save it?

I think that if they are still that small, then they may not be very big by the frost, they may grow a lot unexpectedly or it may remain dormant until it dies. My cucumber plant did that last year, it still had baby cucumbers on there but then around the first of October, they just stopped growing and stayed dormant until they died.
