I have a large gardenia bush and I’m not sure which variety it is. Recently I’ve noticed that there are pods growing from the

base of a few flowers. Are these seed pods? The flower is not your typical gardenia shape. I’ve looked online and it resembles a Brighami Gardenia

The Brighami is native to Hawaii and on the federal endangered list. They are not so easy to come by for home gardeners I've read, so I wonder if that is really the variety you have. That likely is a seed pod.
