do i have ANY control over the amount of pods yearly ? better yet, can i prevent the pods all together ?

Aside from manual removal- unfortunately, not really.

There are ways to sterilize the tree, but this needs to be left to the professionals. Improper use of the chemicals needed can lead to some serious issues for your self, and the entire ecosystem near you.
