dogwood flowering

I have a dogwood that I started for a seedling. It’s been planted for 8 years but has never blossomed. My dogwood is 6-8 years old but has never blossomed. Is their a certain age they need to reach before producing blossoms? Do males and females both produce flowers?

It can take 5 to 7 years for a Dogwood to flower.
