I Have A Dinner Plate Dahlia It Is Bloom. Is There A Way To Extract Seeds From Flowers?

Due to harsh winter I did up roots and store until Spring. I may try to take cutting at that time. But must start early as I spend most of Winter in Florida. Would it be OK to take roots to Florida to try and get cuttings?
