cutting creeping fig vine

I have a creeping fig vine that has crept all over the place. I will cut it back when the weather gets colder. I read an article recently that when cutting the vine, wear something to cover your arms. Why?

All parts of Creeping Fig Vine are considered poisonous if ingested.

The vine could cause skin irritation so you should wear gloves and protective covering on your arms when pruning the plant.
