Q.I Have A Buckeye Tree Outside My Large Picture Window. I Live In Ohio, But The Tree Has Not Begun To Develop Leaf Growth And It Is
the end of April. Is This tree dead? My concern is if it falls there is every possibility that it will destroy my entire apartme nt. What should I do? The tree sits directly in front of the main window of my senior living apartment. I am extremely concerned, given the high winds that we experience here in Cincinnati, that this tree could come crashing through my entire apartment at any given time what should I do?

Do you own your apartment and the yard space? If so, you can have it removed if it is close to the window. If those are rental units, you can express your concerns to the manager and see if they will remove it.
You can give it the scratch test to see if it is alive. If it is, it may still leaf out in May, however buckeyes are one of the first trees to leaf out in spring. If it is a dead tree, it should be removed.
