Q.I have 2 Sago palms

Zone 77406 | sarah4me added on July 18, 2012 | Answered

I have 2 Sago palms, approximately 10 years old. For the first time, one has no fronds growing upward, but instead looks like a leathery ball about the size of a basketball in the center. Any ideas what that is or what I need to do?? Thanks.

This is the sago's flower. It sounds like you may have a female, as they are more round, while the males produce cone-like structures. This article will explain more: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/sago-palm/sago-palms-flower.htm
